Cecilie Manz

Lightyears Caravaggio read wall light

In 1972 Cecilie Manz was born into a creative and artistic family. Design and art have always been a natural part of Cecilie’s life.

Cecilie attended The Royal Danish Academy of Design in 1992, and her interest for design and functionality only grew when she went to Helsinki as an exchange student on the University for Art and Design.

Shortly after Cecilie graduated from the Royal Danish Academy of Design, she established her own design studio, Manz Lab, where she worked long hours designing furniture, glass, lamps, and other products related to the home.

Besides everyday commodities Cecilie creates experimenting prototypes and sculptural pieces, which is also an important part of Cecilie’s work and her creative approach.

Cecilie Manz sees a project as the key to inspiration as ideas come from drawing lots of sketches and try them off instead of just sitting and hoping that the perfect idea will come along out of the blue. Cecilie’s focus point is rooted in simplicity, aesthetics, and functionality.

Her working process always comes from within as she needs a strong and relevant idea as well as functional adjustment before she thinks about the appearance of the design.

She has worked for several large companies such as B&O, Lightyears , Muuto , Georg Jensen, Kähler, and Fritz Hansen.

She has also won various important awards and has been represented in exhibitions at e.g. MoMA (The Museum of Modern Art, New York City) and Danish Design Center for her conceptual design.

Among many, she has designed the popular and timeless Caravaggio lamp series  for Lightyears  who recently released the new Caravaggio Read series .

All the lamps in the Caravaggio Read series  have the iconic shade and a base that can be turned and adjusted as you wish, which makes the lamp incredibly user-friendly and flexible.

The light itself can also be adjusted with a 3 touch brightness setting.

The Caravaggio Read table lamp  and Caravaggio Read floor lamp  will without trouble fit into places with less space such as window frame, shelves, or in small corners because of its robust and compact base.

The shade has three slits along the sides, which allows the light to slip out. The simple and light design makes the Caravaggio Read lamps fit into any room.

Cecilie Manz masters the sculptural simplicity, which appears beautifully in the entire Caravaggio series .
